After visit to Zimbabwe's Anglicans, Massachusetts bishop calls for
increased international action
[Episcopal News Service] Bishop M. Thomas Shaw, SSJE, of the Diocese of
Massachusetts, visited Harare, Zimbabwe, between May 26 and June 3, on
behalf of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori at the invitation
of Bishop Sebastian Bakare of Harare to witness the ongoing religious
and political violence among the people of Zimbabwe. Shaw bore the
Presiding Bishop's message of solidarity with Anglicans there who are
suffering from oppression and human rights violations, including
lockouts from their churches and physical violence. For security
reasons, no advance notice about the trip was published.
The statement below was written by Shaw and sent to his state's
Congressional delegation upon his return. It will also be shared with
the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs
Committee, whose chairman and other members have called for a UN Special
Envoy to Zimbabwe.
The Boston Globe newspaper printed a story
(http://www.boston.com/news/world/africa/articles/2008/06/06/bishop_find
s_flock_tormented_in_zimbabwe) on Shaw's visit to Zimbabwe in its June 6
edition.

Robert Kennedy remembered at L.A. hospital where he died 40 years ago
[Episcopal News Service, Los Angeles] A prayer service remembering the
life of the late Senator Robert Kennedy was held June 3 in All Souls'
Chapel of Good Samaritan Hospital where Kennedy died June 6, 1968 after
being shot the previous day at the nearby Ambassador Hotel.
Episcopal Bishop J. Jon Bruno and Cardinal Roger Mahony joined in
offering prayers and reflections, leading a congregation assembled in
the same chapel where members of the Kennedy family kept vigil following
the tragic shooting.
Good Samaritan - founded in 1885 and an institution of the Episcopal
Diocese of Los Angeles - took particular pride in preparing for the
40th-anniversary liturgy, said hospital president Andrew B. Leeka in
welcoming the congregation to the service.

World-renowned choirmaster honored in New Jersey
By Jerry Hames
[Episcopal Life] The Episcopal Church's most distinguished musicians
gathered in Princeton, N.J., on June 1 to honor James Litton, a
world-renowned choirmaster who returned to Trinity Church, where he
served as organist and choirmaster from 1968 to 1982.
A list of "Who's Who" in the Episcopal music world, including founding
members of the Association of Anglican Musicians, participated in the
service where James Litton was installed as director of music, emeritus,
and joined parishioners at a reception to honor him and his wife, Lou
Ann.
"I don't know that there has ever been a greater gathering of Episcopal
musical talent on a Sunday morning," said the Rev. James Sell, interim
priest, who introduced many of the visitors to the congregation. Among
them were organists and choirmasters, both active and retired, from
England, Connecticut, New York, Virginia, Florida, Georgia and Texas.
